Yesterday we went to the Science Center with the campers. If you all think back to yesterday we started out with some fierce storms. Thankfully, the rain let up as we were ready to load the bus to leave. Unfortunately, it decided to start back up on the way to the bus. . .running was permitted at this time :-) As we rode downtown the kids got an amazing show of lightening. There were a few screams here and there, but once they realized they were safe & reminded not to yell all was well in the bus. I wish I had taken some photos of the storm, but I was too busy watching the HUGE bolts hitting from ground to clouds. It was the craziest lightening I have ever seen in my life. We made it safely to the Science Center and I was never more thankful for an indoor field trip planned.
Upon arriving early to the Science Center we were able to go and explore some. We had about an hour of exploring before we headed down to the Kids Zone. If you have never been, the Kids Zone is a secluded area of the Science Center which is hands on for the children. It is designed specifially for our younger ones. They have a TARC bus to drive, an ambulance to drive and "Work in" in the back, an airplane equipped with real airplane seats, kitchen area, dress up area, building/construction area, water play area and puzzles/rubbing area to make a rubbing art craft. The kids (and counselors) absolutely love this part of the field trip. We only get 45 minutes designated to our specific group, but after 45 minutes they kiddos were ready for lunch. We headed out to the bathrooms then waitly PATIENTLY and I mean patiently to be taken down to the lunchroom area.
After lunch we had a little over an hour left to explore some more. As we left the lunchroom they had a demonstration in the main lobby area. They were putting mentos into diet coke. The first one had 3 mentos in a 2 liter of diet coke, the second had 5 mentos and the last had 10 mentos. The kids thought it was so cool how they exploded into the air the way they did. After the demonstration we separated into our groups and took off thru the center. One group was even able to sit in on the biolab for a handwashing lab. They talked about it all afternoon.
All in all I thought the field trip was a great time. I hope your children had as much fun as we did.

Looks like the Science center was a great place for the kids to learn and play. The storms were just an added bonus of fun and entertainment. Enjoy the new week.
