Yesterday we went to the Science Center with the campers. If you all think back to yesterday we started out with some fierce storms. Thankfully, the rain let up as we were ready to load the bus to leave. Unfortunately, it decided to start back up on the way to the bus. . .running was permitted at this time :-) As we rode downtown the kids got an amazing show of lightening. There were a few screams here and there, but once they realized they were safe & reminded not to yell all was well in the bus. I wish I had taken some photos of the storm, but I was too busy watching the HUGE bolts hitting from ground to clouds. It was the craziest lightening I have ever seen in my life. We made it safely to the Science Center and I was never more thankful for an indoor field trip planned.
Upon arriving early to the Science Center we were able to go and explore some. We had about an hour of exploring before we headed down to the Kids Zone. If you have never been, the Kids Zone is a secluded area of the Science Center which is hands on for the children. It is designed specifially for our younger ones. They have a TARC bus to drive, an ambulance to drive and "Work in" in the back, an airplane equipped with real airplane seats, kitchen area, dress up area, building/construction area, water play area and puzzles/rubbing area to make a rubbing art craft. The kids (and counselors) absolutely love this part of the field trip. We only get 45 minutes designated to our specific group, but after 45 minutes they kiddos were ready for lunch. We headed out to the bathrooms then waitly PATIENTLY and I mean patiently to be taken down to the lunchroom area.
After lunch we had a little over an hour left to explore some more. As we left the lunchroom they had a demonstration in the main lobby area. They were putting mentos into diet coke. The first one had 3 mentos in a 2 liter of diet coke, the second had 5 mentos and the last had 10 mentos. The kids thought it was so cool how they exploded into the air the way they did. After the demonstration we separated into our groups and took off thru the center. One group was even able to sit in on the biolab for a handwashing lab. They talked about it all afternoon.
All in all I thought the field trip was a great time. I hope your children had as much fun as we did.

What a beautiful day
Today was an absolutely beautiful day. We enjoyed a wonderful time at the Y's pool this morning. All of the children (minus 2 who did not want to swim) had a lot of fun. We did not do the slide today, but we did get out a hula hoop for the kids to jump while we had swimming. We also played "red light/green light" in the water. The kids had such a good time and most were on their best behavior.
After swimming we sat in the sun for a little bit to try and warm up. With the pool being in the shade that time of day, we sometimes get a little bit cold during swim time. Once we all warmed up we headed back to camp site for lunch.
The older group was able to head back to the Y after lunch and changing back in to our clothes. They got to Rock Climb and also play in the Kids Club while they were at the Y. We are only able to take the 5 year old and up group because you must be 5 years old in order to climb the rock wall. We are planning to have lunch over at the Y after swimming in the next week or two, so that our younger children can play in Kids Club area without having to walk to and from the Y twice. We are doing good to get them to do it once, much less twice in one day :-) Those little legs just cant take it.
While the older group was away the younger group began working on their treasure maps. Each child will have their own treasure map to take home tomorrow. I hope the children enjoyed today as much as we did.
Don't forget, tomorrow is Pirate Dress Up Day!! Come in your best pirate outfit ready to tackle the treasure map in search of the prize. Hopefully, there is something good left behind for all the campers. See you in the morning!

A Pirate's Life For Me
This week we will center our activities around the theme "A Pirate's Life For Me". Your children will be learning a few new songs and making some pretty cool crafts. We will be traveling to the Louisville Science Center on Wednesday for our field trip.
A quick reminder that drop off is from 7-9am. We do leave Doss at 9:05am every Tuesday and Thursday for swimming. We will be pulling out of the parking lot by 9:30am every Wednesday for field trips. If we are gone, you can bring your child to the field trip facility but we will not be waiting for campers to arrive.
Don't forget to pick up schedules for each week of the summer. They are located on the check in desk. We have the next three weeks set out, as well as this weeks schedule. If you would like the rest of them, we do have them inside the room on the book shelf.
I hope you and your children are enjoying your camp experience thus far. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We also have a hot line you can call to find out when we'll return to camp or what we will be doing for the day.
Have a great evening and see you in the morning!!
