Hawaiian Hulaballoo
This week has been a lot of fun! We started our week off with a frightening Tornado siren on Monday that turned out to be "an accident"! The children did a great job moving into a new classroom with no windows and playing games together. I was very proud of what a great job they did. After about 40 minutes we found out it was an accident and went back to our regular room and activities.
On Tuesday, we had a beautiful day for swimming and group activities. We have several children practicing to take the swim test. If you hear your little one talking about it, it is actually true. In order to not wear a swim belt at the YMCA you must pass a swim test. The test involved jumping into 10 ft. deep water, swimming out to the lap lane, returning to the side and treading water for 10 seconds. This does sound a bit extreme but we do not want any swimmers in the water who aren't strong enough to get themselves to the side of the pool without struggling. We have a few children who have passed, but we have several practicing to take the test.
Wednesday started out VERY cloudy and possibilities of extremely bad weather. I decided to continue on with the field trip as planned due to the ever changing weather here in KY. I didn't want the kiddos to miss out on Calypso Cove fun. Thankfully, although it was overcast, the day turned out great (at least the morning did). I hope you all were able to stay safe during the storms that evening.
Thursday brought on another swim day. It was a little humid Thursday but the weather was perfect for swimming. Unfortunately, the monsoon/tornadicweather from the night before left us a lovely swamp to walk through to get to the Y. The children took it with stride and thought it was cool to take showers prior to swimming. We also used A LOT of baby wipes to clean up once we returned to camp site. We worked on our grass skirts later in the afternoon. Each child created their own grass skirt for our cook out/dress up Friday. If you forgot to pick it up on your way home today, we will give it to you next week.
Today was our much anticipated family cook out. We had an outstanding amount of participation from our campers and their parents. Thank you so much for bringing in the fruit, veggies, baked chips, pretzels and granola bars. The kids had a WONDERFUL lunch and snack. Another big shout out to the parents who were able to come spend lunch with us during their busy day. The kids seemed to really enjoy the lunch and you coming to visit. After lunch we all went outside to play for more than an hour. The weather was absolutely amazing today. We could not have been blessed with anymore beautiful weather than it was today. The sun shining, wind blowing and no humidity. The campers played their little hearts out! We had many pass out while waiting in line for the bathroom after snack. I hope your children have enjoyed camp this week. We look forward to another exciting week coming up. We will be heading into the Wild, Wild West this week :-) Be thinking of your costume for Friday's dress up day. We will also be heading to the Frazier Arms Museum next week for a visit with a real life Western Cowboy and many other exciting adventures. I hope you all have a great weekend! See you on Monday!
